An Advanced Blue-Water Wreck Dive in Palma Bay
In the heart of Palma Bay lies one of the most fascinating Wreck Diving sites in the Balearic Islands. This group of intentionally sunk cargo ships forms one of the largest wreck areas in Mallorca and is a top destination for advanced divers interested in diving in Mallorca.
The wrecks were scuttled during the 1970s and 1980s to create an artificial reef. Today, they are an important underwater landmark, attracting both recreational and technical divers and hosting an increasing variety of marine life.
Located at depths between 27 and 30 meters, the site is accessed by boat and requires a blue-water descent along a mooring line. For safety reasons, it is recommended only for experienced divers, with no need for wreck penetration, as the structures can be fully enjoyed from the outside.
The most prominent wrecks are the Playa Dorada, a well-preserved 60-meter cargo ship resting upright on the seabed, and the Karelia, a former ferry sunk near the breakwater, featuring the remains of a sailboat at its bow. Several smaller wrecks nearby allow divers to follow the well-known “wreck route” when conditions permit.
