The opportunity to dive in new spots on the island!
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Environment has established the “La Reserva Marina del Poniente de Mallorca” covering almost 2,000 hectares, ten times the size of the original Toro and Malgrats reserves.
The recovery of commercial fish populations in the marine reserves will be extended to the southwest of the Bay of Palma, which will benefit the artisanal fishing sector and economic activities related to fish watching.
Regarding underwater activities, specific diving spots have been established with a maximum daily number of dives. Toro Island will have six designated areas, while the Malgrats Islands will have four marked spots.
These protected areas have made the Balearic Islands a benchmark for diving tourism, with more than 70,000 dives annually.
